Ali Sholihin · Amateur Radio Operator

This page is about my amateur radio station, call sign YD7UOG: the equipment, the activity on the air, and a short explainer for visitors who are new to the hobby.

What is amateur radio?

Amateur radio is a radio service run by licensed individuals for technical experimentation, self-training, emergency communication, and international goodwill — with no commercial purpose. Every operator holds a unique call sign issued by their national authority.

In Indonesia, operators belong to ORARI (Organisasi Amatir Radio Indonesia). My call sign, YD7UOG, identifies exactly one station: mine.

When telecommunications infrastructure goes down after a disaster, amateur radio is often the first link that comes back up. That is why regular drills and operating discipline are more than a hobby.
